This is an R.B.NR. take-down knife. The R.B. NR. stands for Reichsbetriebs nummer; this translates literally as Realm of operation number. The purpose of these numbers was primarily to keep track of oridanance manufacturers (probably for quality control, etc.).The R.B.NR numbers can be found on uniforms, gloves, fighting knives. Which R.B.NR. numbers and manufactures went together is unknown. Any records of the manufacturers' identities has supposedly been lost. Certain characteristics between manufactures' maker marked pieces and unknown R.B.NR numbers may eventually lead to a solution.
Several R.B.NR. numbers have been found on paratrooper knives. These include the following original ones: RB Nr. 0/0561/0020 which is marked on the knife blade and R.B. NR. 0/0561/0019 marked only on the spike.
