We’re excited to
anticipate to you all information about this exceptional items between
now and the start of the auction. All the items shown here, all of
extremely fine craft, belonged to one of the most famous and important
royal families of the 19th century massacred during the Soviet
revolution. Provenience: 1996 Autumn Auction of the famous Italian
Auctions House “Czerny”.
This gorgeous
set is composed of five items: an hand mirror, an hand brush, a big
oval box, a cream pot and a perfume bottle. All the items are crystal
made with a silver cover with the imperial family monogram engraved
beneath the imperial coronet.
The monogram “N II” is interweaved with the letter “A” and
engraved with floral decoration. All the silver covers bears the
crowned Russian double-headed eagle, St. Petersburg hallmarks for "84"
zolotniki, the work master's mark “N.O.”, in cyrillic alphabet, that
stands for “P.O.” (Pavel Ovchinnikov) and the maker mark with his full
name in cyrillic alphabet.
Pavel Ovchinnikov, second only to Faberge', was one of the most
notorious and appreciated Russian goldsmith and silversmith. His
workshop, founded in 1853, had more than 300 workers in 1881.
During the Czarist reign he was the official silversmith for the
Czar’s own court and one of the most appreciated by the royal family.

decoration and an engraved shell ribbon, has only a small chip on the
left edge.
2) A silver handbrush with the same decorations.
3) An oval big box in pyramidal carved crystal, with
a big star embossed on the bottom. Silver cover finely engraved with
the same decorations. Gilt on reverse face.
4) A round-shaped cream pot in crystal with a big
star embossed on the bottom and a finely engraved silver cover.
5) A crystal perfume bottle with a round-shaped
silver cover finely engraved.
